Currently, there are numerous soft tissue filler materials. However, the most challenging problem is the absorption after implantation into human body. We have made an effort to minimize the absorption, so manufactured a special instrument. We have achieved excellent results using the instrument for lower lip augmentation and refinement of nasolabial fold with SuredermTM. From October 2002 to October 2004, 21 patients underwent lower lip augmentation and 15 patients were engaged for correction of their deep nasolabial fold with our method. Patients¡¯ age of lower lip augmentation was distributed from 18 to 53 years old, and the mean was 44 years old. For refinement of nasolabial fold group, the age distribution was from 21 to 61 years old, and the mean was 47 years old. Using our special instrument, no dissection was needed to make tunnels for placement of SuredermTM. Therefore we could minimize the injuries of recipient sites. SuredermTM was positioned at subcutaneous layer, then no suture for fixation was performed. During the follow-up period from 4 months to 15 months, all patients except one underwent single procedure and have gained the excellent results. One patient who underwent lower lip augmentation had problem with infection, so infected portion of implant was removed partially. Then reinsertion of implant was performed after 3 months and the result was very satisfactory. Overall results of all patients were remarkable. We tried our special instrument to minimize the injuries of recipient sites, then could decrease the absorption rate of SuredermTM effectively and simplify the procedure.
